Nancy' City Roles


• Council Designate: Arts & Culture, Heritage, Youth, Seniors, and Environment
• City Representative: Port Coquitlam Arts Council
• Alternate City Representative: Tri-Cities Homelessness and Housing Task Force
• City Representative: Fraser Valley Regional Library Board
• City Representative and Director: Coquitlam River Watershed Society
• City Representative: Wilson Seniors Advisory Board
• Past City Representative and Director: E-Comm 9-1-1, serving the Cities of Burnaby, New Westminster, Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam, and Port Moody, as well as the Village of Belcarra
• City Representative attending Union of British Columbia Municipalities (UBCM) Conventions
• Creator of a gender equity resolution endorsed at the 2024 UBCM Convention advocating for updates to Provincial Occupational Health & Safety Regulations and the British Columbia Building Code to include provisions for menstrual supplies


Through these leadership roles, Nancy has worked collaboratively with community organizations, regional partners, senior levels of government, and residents to advance initiatives that strengthen community well-being, environmental sustainability, accessibility, public safety, arts and culture, and quality of life for people of all ages.


In Nancy's Working Life


Nancy built a successful 31-year career in the telecommunications industry, working her way through a variety of positions including the mail room, phone marts, collections, landline services, mobility customer service, and ultimately the Loyalty & Retention Department. In her final role, she specialized in resolving complex customer concerns, finding solutions that benefited both customers and the business.


Throughout her career, Nancy was recognized for her exceptional customer service, problem-solving abilities, and innovative thinking. She received numerous customer commendations and business awards, and several of her recommendations were adopted and implemented, improving operations and enhancing the customer experience. In 2021, she received the prestigious TELUS Legend Award, the highest honour a TELUS team member can achieve, recognizing her extraordinary contributions to customers, colleagues, the business, and the community. Nancy also served for five years as President of TWU/USW Local 1944, Local 51, advocating for workers and strengthening community connections.


Prior to and during her telecommunications career, Nancy gained experience in a variety of industries. She worked in collections for the Canada Revenue Agency, in a flower shop, and with Weldwood of Canada as a tree planter, pinecone picker, and labourer in the plywood plant. She also worked seasonally with the BC Parks Branch.


These diverse experiences helped shape Nancy's strong work ethic, resilience, problem-solving skills, and appreciation for people from all walks of life.


Community – Canadian & International Volunteer Awards

 

• 2017 Volunteer of the Year – Port Coquitlam
• 2017 United Steelworkers (USW) International Jefferson Award for Outstanding Public Service for welcoming newcomers to the Tri-Cities fleeing civil war, with a focus on women, widows, children, and individuals with disabilities
• 2017 Recognition from the Prime Minister of Canada for supporting newcomers fleeing violence and conflict in their home countries who were evacuated to Canada
• 2021 Labour Community Service Award – New Westminster & District Labour Council
• 2026 Frances Wagner Woman of Achievement Award Recipient – Soroptimist International of Western Canada, recognizing community leadership, volunteer service, and commitment to improving the lives of others

 
Education & Personal Achievements 

 

• Completed three years of post-secondary studies at the University of British Columbia in the Faculty of Education, majoring in Art and Physical Education
• Floral Design Certificate – Kwantlen College
• Completed Parliamentary Procedures, Duty to Accommodate, Women in Leadership, and other labour education programs through the Canadian Labour Congress
• Completed International Communications Training Courses
• Four-time cornea transplant recipient who understands firsthand the life-changing impact of organ and tissue donation. Inspired by her lived experience, Nancy became a passionate advocate for donation awareness, volunteering with the Canadian Transplant Society and BC Transplant community partners and presenting to Port Coquitlam City Council prior to being elected.
• Earned a 2nd Degree Black Belt in Shotokan Karate after 14 years of dedicated training; tournament competitor, judge, and Provincial Official
• Completed Grade 6 Royal Conservatory of Music for Piano


Nancy’s educational, personal, and volunteer experiences reflect a lifelong commitment to learning, resilience, leadership, and service to others. These experiences have helped shape her compassionate approach to community advocacy and her dedication to improving the lives of those around her.
