Nancy is a dedicated City Councillor serving her second term on Port Coquitlam City Council. She is known for her extensive and diverse community connections, delivering results, and working tirelessly to improve the quality of life for residents of all ages.
A true people person, Nancy built a 31-year career in the telecommunications industry. During her time with TELUS, she was honoured in 2021 with the TELUS Legend Award — the company’s highest recognition — for her extraordinary contributions to customers, colleagues, and community. She also served for five years as President of TWU/USW Local 1944, Local 51, advocating for workers and strengthening community connections.
As a member of Council, Nancy has championed impactful initiatives supporting seniors and advancing gender equity, including introducing complimentary menstrual products in civic facilities focusing on getting the basics right for residents. She also advanced a resolution through the Federation of Canadian Municipalities addressing period poverty, contributing to a $25 million federal investment supporting vulnerable Canadians. Nancy was the driving force behind the initiative allowing Port Coquitlam Super Seniors (80yrs+) to access free recreation opportunities in community centres throughout the city. She is a strong advocate who consistently demonstrates proven results for residents.
In her role as the City’s Environmental Designate, Nancy helped initiate $78,000 in grant funding for tree planting, supporting the City’s Climate Action Plan and expanding the urban tree canopy. She also introduced the City's popular rain barrel program, helping residents conserve water and support environmental sustainability.
Nancy’s commitment to service has earned her both national and international recognition. In 2017, she received the prestigious USW International Jefferson Award for Outstanding Public Service as a Community Champion, along with recognition from the Prime Minister of Canada. That same year, she was named Port Coquitlam’s Volunteer of the Year. In 2021, she received the Labour Community Service Award from the New Westminster & District Labour Council for her leadership as a City Councillor.
Nancy was recently honoured with the Frances Wagner Woman of Achievement Award from Soroptimist International of Western Canada, recognizing both her professional achievements and her deep commitment to community service. She helps host and provide meals for more than 100 women and children in need, supporting some of the community’s most vulnerable residents, and also created a scholarship supporting refugee women fleeing civil war.
Nancy’s personal journey reflects resilience and determination. After surviving an assault by a stranger, she committed to 14 years of training to earn her second-degree black belt. She is also a multiple cornea transplant recipient due to a rare vision disorder and a passionate advocate for organ and tissue donation.
Born in New Zealand and raised in Quesnel, Nancy has proudly called Port Coquitlam home since 1992. She and her husband, Ray, have four children — Katrina (Mike Conner), Monica (Andrew Murphy), Jackie, and Bill (Emma Hughes) — and five young grandchildren, along with their goldendoodle, Zephyr.
As a dedicated City Councillor, Nancy continues to give back through her leadership and volunteer efforts. In her free time, she enjoys biking local trails, spending time with family, riding in Ray’s ’55 Chevy, and staying active at Hyde Creek Recreation Centre. Nancy remains deeply committed to serving her community with compassion, integrity, and a focus on getting the basics right for residents, and she would be honoured to have your vote on October 17.

The McCurrach family is well known throughout the community for their involvement in local sports, arts, and volunteerism. The family has deep roots in lacrosse, with Katrina, Andrew, Mike, and Reece actively involved over the years. Katrina was also recognized twice as Coach of the Year for her dedication to youth athletics. Jackie has coached female hockey and was nationally recognized as a houseguest on Big Brother Canada.
Nancy’s daughter Monica has built a strong social media presence with more than 267,000 Instagram followers. Nancy’s son Bill is a loyal and hardworking Greater Vancouver Regional District employee with 10 years of seniority, following in his father’s footsteps. He is well respected both at work and at home and is affectionately nicknamed “the favourite uncle.” Ray has also been a team manager and is a familiar face at local arenas and sports facilities supporting youth and community sports. The family’s involvement reflects Nancy’s strong belief in community participation and giving back, with years of involvement in hockey, lacrosse, softball, soccer, Highland dancing, K&S dancing, gymnastics, cheer, and musical theatre throughout Port Coquitlam and beyond.
