Council’s Achievements this Past Term

 - Apr. 4, 2022 The City of Port Coquitlam and kʷikʷəƛ̓əm (Kwikwetlem) First Nation reached a servicing agreement for a large future development off Pitt River Road. A historic signing ceremony was held at the kʷikʷəƛ̓əm’s slakəyánc site with representatives from the City of Port Coquitlam (Mayor West, Cllr’s McCurrach, Pollock and Darling), First Nation (Chief Ed Hall & Cllr Peters) and B.C.’s Ministry of Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation, which supported the development of the agreement. This signified the beginning of a strong relationship that will improve the lives of everyone in our community.

 - Our Council stopped a developer from renovicting 100 residences for minor renovations, now PoCo has one of the toughest demolition bylaws in British Columbia.

   - Our Council has approved of several non-market housing projects that are being built and they are at various stages of development, which will provide over 500 affordable rental units.

 - Our Council has approved of investing $4.3 million in infrastructure improvements to protect the community from future flooding, and we have a new climate action plan in the works.

 - Our Council passed bylaws as a result of the pandemic and now adults can now drink alcoholic beverages in designated parks, and opened up outdoor patio spaces for businesses to be able to carry on business and they are here to stay.

 - Our Council approved several craft brewers and cannabis retail stores to open.

  - Our Council advanced gender equity by approving free menstrual products in civic facility washrooms, Nancy was the driving force behind this initiative

 - Our Council adopted an anti-racism policy and Mayor West created an Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Roundtable

 - Super Seniors (80 years+) can now exercise for fee in civic facilities and access other programs. Nancy often raised the question as to why the city was charging super seniors, and was always advocating that they should be able to work out for free.

 - Gates Park will be redeveloped into a world class Soccer Hub

 - Pedestrian speed humps were added in front of schools and parks, improvements to neighbourhood roads and sidewalks are ongoing, and improvements along Prairie Ave east of Coast Meridian is completed along with a multiuse path
